  • What can I do on my time off and are there organized activities?

If the park has a dedicated shuttle driver for the season, employees can take staff trips on days off to scenic locations like the Black Hills, Mount Rushmore, Rapid City, and other tourist attractions.

Within the park, employees are often found hiking, spotting wildlife, enjoying gorgeous sunrises and sunsets, or spending time at night sky viewings.

  • Where can I go shopping or get essential items?

Wall, SD is a small town just 30 miles from the park with a grocery store, small retailers, and restaurants. Rapid City, SD is 90 miles away from the park with more shopping locations and larger big-box retailers.

  • Is there cell phone and internet access?

There is cell phone and internet access, but it as sporadic at best. Different cell pone carriers provide better coverage in the park than others.

  • Are there appearance guidelines?

We have uniforms available depending on your role at the park. We require all of our team members to maintain a professional appearance, including the practice of good hygiene.

  • Is housing available and what is it like?

We have trailers available for employees with bedrooms at opposite ends and currently sleep two people. In each trailer, there is a living area, kitchen, bathroom, washer, and dryer. There is also housing at the Badlands Inn which is a motel room with a single bed; we hold these single rooms for employees as they cannot be rented.

  • Do you hire international applicants?

We work with CIEE as our J1 visa sponsor for international students. To learn more about opportunities for international students and begin the application process, please click here for the CIEE website.

  • Where can I buy or make food?

All employees are allowed one fee meal at Cedar Pass Lodge during their work shift.

The trailers used for employee housing include a kitchen for teammates to cook their own meals. Employees can buy groceries in Wall, SD or Rapid City, SD.

  • What is the best way to get to property? What transportation options are there?

Rapid City Regional Airport is the closest major airport, located just 55 miles from Badlands National Park. The property is located nine miles off Interstate 90.

A personal vehicle is highly recommended for employees. Badlands is a very remote location, and on days off, it is almost impossible to get anywhere without a car. Employees are responsible for their own transportation to and from Badlands.
